My Interview with Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor( Highlighting the Facts)

In legal advocacy and human rights, few names are as powerful as Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor. A seasoned lawyer, advocate for peace, and human rights defender, Ejiofor exemplifies the quintessence of dedication, integrity, and resilience throughout his career. His work, particularly his unwavering support for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), not only highlights his professional acumen but also his profound commitment to justice and human rights.

Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor maintains a high standard of professional ethics, ensuring that his legal practice is grounded in truth and fairness. This dedication is most evident in his representation of Nnamdi Kanu, a role he undertook without any financial remuneration. Ejiofor has consistently emphasized that his legal services for Kanu were entirely pro bono, challenging anyone with evidence to the contrary to come forward.

This pro bono engagement began in 2015 when Ejiofor received a letter of engagement from Nnamdi Kanu. Throughout the years, Ejiofor has stood by Kanu and the IPOB, providing diligent legal services amidst immense personal and professional challenges. His commitment is not merely professional; it is deeply personal, driven by a profound belief in justice and human rights.

Challenges and Triumphs.

Barrister Ejiofor's journey has been fraught with challenges, many of which have been life-threatening. On June 6, 2021, he posted about a joint police and army operation at his house, where officers were shooting sporadically in an attempt to arrest him. Despite committing no offense, Ejiofor's life was under serious threat, a stark reminder of the dangers he faces in his pursuit of justice for Nnamdi Kanu.

These threats were not isolated incidents. Between 2015 and 2021, Ejiofor survived five assassination attempts. These brutal attacks, ostensibly orchestrated by those threatened by his defense of Kanu and the IPOB, underscore the perilous nature of his work. Despite these dangers, Ejiofor remains steadfast, driven by a commitment to defend his client and uphold justice.

The legal victories achieved under Ejiofor's leadership are significant. In October 2022, Nigeria's Appeal Court discharged and acquitted Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism charges, ruling that he had been illegally arrested abroad. This landmark victory is a testament to Ejiofor's legal prowess and dedication. Despite facing relentless blackmail, backstabbing, and attempts to tarnish his reputation, Ejiofor's integrity remains intact.

Personal and professional sacrifices.

the personal toll of Ejiofor's work has been immense. He has lost close associates, such as his personal assistant Samuel Okoro, who was gruesomely murdered, and other wards who were abducted and remain in detention. These sacrifices highlight the profound personal cost of his professional dedication. Despite these losses, Ejiofor continues to fight for justice, embodying the belief that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Ejiofor's professional journey has also been marked by collaboration with other esteemed legal professionals. Notably, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome joined Kanu's legal team at Ejiofor's behest. Ozekhome's involvement, specifically requested by Kanu, added another layer of legal expertise to the team, further demonstrating Ejiofor's commitment to securing the best possible defense for his client.

Beyond his legal practice, Ejiofor has been an outspoken advocate for human rights and peace. His work extends beyond individual cases, addressing broader issues of justice and human rights within Nigeria. Ejiofor's advocacy is driven by a deep sense of moral and ethical responsibility, as he consistently emphasizes the importance of justice, not just within the legal framework, but as a fundamental human right.

Ejiofor believes strongly in the importance of legal representation and the right to choose one's counsel. He has repeatedly highlighted that the right to counsel is constitutionally guaranteed, a principle he has defended vigorously throughout his career.

Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor's career is a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have in the fight for justice and human rights. His unwavering dedication, professional integrity, and personal sacrifices have made him a beacon of hope. Despite facing immense challenges, including threats to his life and the loss of close associates, Ejiofor has remained steadfast in his pursuit of justice.

In a world where legal and human rights are often under threat, Ejiofor's work serves as an inspiration. His story is a testament to the enduring power of truth, integrity, and justice. As he continues his advocacy, Ejiofor remains a formidable force for good, embodying the belief that, in the end, good and justice will prevail. His legacy is one of courage, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and human rights.

THE ILLEGAL AND HEALTH RISKS OF CONSUMING CROCODILE MEAT IN NIGERIA: I thought you should know Eating suya is considered the ultimate African street food, particularly popular in countries like Nigeria. However, in recent times, some individuals have strayed from the norm, venturing into consuming endangered animals—a dangerous practice that can have serious legal consequences. In Nigeria, the consumption of grilled crocodile meat—or crocodile meat in any form—can land you in jail. Yes, you heard that correctly. The Nigerian government has sued individuals for killing and consuming crocodiles, citing violations of environmental and wildlife protection laws. In cities like Abuja and Lagos, there are numerous joints where crocodile meat is openly sold, often without the knowledge of customers regarding the dangers and legal risks involved. If you are caught buying or eating such meat by government enforcement agents, you could face arrest and prosecution. Importantly, ignorance of t...
ARE COWS MORE VALUABLE THAN HUMANS IN NIGERIA? WHAT IS THE VALUE OF LIFE IN A NATION IN CRISIS — HOW MANY MORE MUST DIE? By Daniel Okonkwo In recent years, the value of human life in Nigeria has come under intense scrutiny, particularly due to the relentless attacks on farming communities, primarily in the Middle Belt and North-Central regions. The haunting question that continues to echo across local and international discourse is: Are cows more valuable than human beings in Nigeria? This question becomes even more unsettling when viewed through the lens of recurring, unprovoked attacks by armed herdsmen—mostly identified as Fulani militants—on rural communities. Headlines consistently portray the devastating impact of these attacks: “At least 21 killed in Nigeria after herdsmen attack villagers,” “At least 140 villagers killed by suspected herders,” and “On April 12, 2022, armed herdsmen attacked several villages in Benue State, killing over 25 people and injuring many more.” Th...

Security Chiefs, Do Your Job—Nigerians Are Dying: The Herders-Farmers Conflict Rooted in Land, Law, and Neglect By Daniel Okonkwo For close to three decades, a brutal and persistent conflict has gripped Nigeria’s Middle Belt, with the state of Benue emerging as one of its bloodiest epicenters. What began as tensions between itinerant herders and local farmers has evolved into an entrenched humanitarian and security crisis. Despite Nigeria’s constitutional guarantees and land governance framework, the conflict continues to claim lives, displace communities, and erode the nation’s socio-political cohesion.  Why can't herders—like every other Nigerian—buy land or peacefully negotiate for grazing rights with host communities? Instead, there have been recurring reports of herders trespassing on farmland, destroying crops, and engaging in deadly confrontations with local populations. This crisis intensified during the previous administration and has escalated dramatically in recent...
