Ihiala, a town in the southern part of Anambra State and the administrative hub of Ihiala Local Government Area, has recently become a grim focal point of violence and bloodshed. Once celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and serene environment, the town now finds itself in the limelight for troubling reasons—becoming a haven for criminals, kidnappers, and assassins.

On Monday, December 30th, Ihiala witnessed yet another tragic episode as gunmen claimed several lives in separate incidents. These attacks, reportedly linked to the enforcement of a sit-at-home order, have plunged the community into grief and raised critical questions about the deteriorating security situation.

A popular businessman was tragically killed at his rental company site while supervising workers setting up canopies for a ceremony. Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen stormed the venue and opened fire without hesitation, killing him on the spot. The chaos that ensued saw bystanders fleeing in panic, leaving the community in shock.

This killing has raised troubling questions about the motives behind such acts. Are these deliberate attempts to frustrate the state, or are they the work of individuals with complete disregard for human life?

In another attack near the Ihiala Local Government Secretariat, gunmen brutally murdered two security operatives attached to the council, leaving a third injured. This brazen assault has further deepened the community’s despair.

Council chairman Charles Orjiako expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and unequivocally condemned the violence.

“We are deeply pained by this senseless killing of our security personnel, who were working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our people. We condemn this act in its entirety and call on the perpetrators to surrender themselves to the authorities or face the consequences of their actions,” Orjiako stated.

The violence in Ihiala signals a troubling trend of growing insecurity across Anambra State. While other states celebrate the festive season in peace and joy, Ihiala residents are left grappling with fear and mourning. The audacity of these attacks emphasizes the influence of criminal elements exploiting regional challenges to enforce their destructive agenda.

Key questions remain: How do these heinous acts serve those who claim to be fighting for the people? Who are the individuals turning Ihiala into a battlefield?

The Anambra State government must take decisive and immediate steps to address the crisis. Drastic measures are needed to root out the bandits and criminals who are determined to make the state ungovernable. The safety and well-being of the people of Ihiala—and indeed, all of Anambra State—must be prioritized.

The government must rise to the occasion, implement effective security measures, and demonstrate its commitment to protecting its citizens. The people of Anambra deserve peace and security, not the reign of terror inflicted by these criminals.

For now, the community mourns its losses and holds onto hope for justice and lasting peace.

Music has a way of bringing people together, and some connections formed through it stand the test of time. One such bond is the one I share with Oluwajuwonlo Iledare, popularly known as Jaywon. A few years ago, I received a call from him: "Boss, I'm in Abuja. Please send your address, I want to come and see you, sir." Within minutes, he arrived at my residence in Wuse 2, Abuja, accompanied by his manager and some crew members. Jaywon has always been a humble young man, and seeing him again reminded me of the passion and determination he has carried throughout his career. Jaywon’s journey into music began in the early 2000s when he was just another young man with dreams of making it big in the Nigerian music industry. I vividly remember his first performances in 2004 at my musical show, where I featured the likes of Daniel Wilson, W4, Righteous Man, Rocksteady, and Rymzo, among many other talented artists of that era. It was clear from the beginning that he had something ...
